Priscilla and the Wimps: Thoughts on the ending

This week we read the story “Priscilla and the Wimps” by Richard Peck.  The story ends with Priscilla shoving Monk in a locker and the reader being told that there’s a snow storm and that school is closed for a week.  The reader is lead to believe that Monk is left in the locker for a whole week.  But the way the story ended was done more for impact than to inform the reader.  It was an example of hyperbole.

So my question to you is, what do you think REALLY happened to Monk after he got shoved in the locker?  Please write at least 2-3 sentences explaining your thoughts.

  1. I THINK MONK WAS RESCUED. A CUSTODIAN PROBABLY SAVED HIM, THINKING THEY WOULD GET FIRED IF HE REFUSED. I THINK MR. MONK HAD IT COMING, ANY ONE WHO WEARS OSTRICH SKIN BOOTS IS IN FOR A BEATING. MONK HAD IT COMING!

  2. I think monk got saved by one of his gang members. After the blizzard Monk was so embarrassed that he moved to another school. Now Prisilla is the head of the gang and melvin now wears the jacket and the ostrich skinned boots.

  3. I would think that Priscilla would come back and get him out of the closet. In the beginning, she seemed normal, but no normal person would let a person DIE in a locker. She just had to come back and get him out of there.

The author made you think that Monk was left in the locker for a whole week. But how many teachers and staff leave right when the students leave? What problly happend was one of the teacher came back from dissmisal to lock up the room and t grab papers and stuff like that.

  5. I think that it didn't REALLY have a blizzard and school closed for a week. I think that it just snowed a little more than usual and there was one snow day, so Monk was only stuck in the locker for one day. In the story, if the author really did mean for the readers to think that Monk was trapped in the locker for a whole week, the literature book probably wouldn't have told us about hyperboles.

I would have to say that a janitor hear him screaming, and got him out. But when every one came back to school I think that Monk was too embarrassed to go to school. It is also a really big hyperbole saying that no school for a week and a kid being in a locker for a week without any one telling a adult.

  7. I think that Monk was not really left in the locker for a week. He probably got out of the locker by yelling and pounding on the locker. A janitor or teacher still in the school probably heard him and let him out. They probably just broke the lock. I think that the author wrote school closed for a week because he wanted to lead us to believe that Monk was left in the locker. Monk was probably too embarrassed to go back to school so he stopped coming. Priscilla was a celebrity. The Kobras stopped coming, too, and the school was better.

  8. He didn't really just stay trapped in that locker. I think that Monk's gang came back after school and got him out. Then, from that day forth, Monk Klutter didn't harm another human being and Priscilla gained more friends. Richard Peck, the author, wrote "school then closed for a week" because he wanted to leave us hanging, and to have us figure out if he was stuck there forever.

I think Monk got saved by someone who was still in the school like the janitor. I now think Monk will not be a bully anymore. I think he learned his lesson from Priscilla.

I think that one of the Kobras got Monk out of the locker immediately. One of them probably had a hammer or something in his locker. That could break the lock.

I also think that Monk stopped selling the passes for various reasons, like, not giving lunch money or going to the bathroom. I think Monk lived 'under the radar' from then on. Priscilla and Monk probably shun each other.

I don't think Monk died. I think someone came and got him out

Annie M i wish that is could read as many books as you do. I just dont like reading when i have vacation time.

  13. I think Monk probably got out of the locker. Some teachers still had to be there and a custodian would have gotten it out. Someone would have heard Monk banging and yelling. Monk probably stopped bossing everybody around and the Kobras probably stopped working for him.

i think that the janitors heard monk pounding on the locker and used a crowbar to get him out but he also stopped being a big fat jerk to everybody.

I think that monk was found because janitors and other people in the hallway would hear him screaming. The author was trying to have us hanging at the end of this story. I actually think that one of Monk's kobras found him and got him out.

  16. Annie R,

I agree with Annie M and Evan W because a janitor or one of his kobras found him.

I think if Monk really couldn't get out the janitor or a teacher would have let him out. Also he probably has a family who would wonder were he was

  18. Margot B. I agree with Annie M. and Annie R. the janitor would have let him out.

  19. I don't think the kid was stuck in a locker for a week.I think either the janitor let him out of the locker or his parents stared looking for him.

  20. I think that one of the teachers came out of their classroom and herd Monk banging on the locker and tyhe teacher found a janiter and told him to break the lock

  21. I thought that the ending was sort of weird how the author made you feel like Monk was stuck in the locker for the whole week.Even though you still know that not all of the teachers and janitors leave so some one would have heard him pounding and yelling. Its was like Carma got back at Monk for being mean to so many kids. But for the most part Priscilla and the Wimps was really good.

  22. I liked how the ending was really mysterious and how they made you think Monk was stuck in the locker. I really thought Monk was stuck in the locker at first but then I realized that it would be highly unlikely. I also liked how Monk realized that he wasnt the toughest kid in school and how he needed to be shown that.

I thought Parcella and the wimps had a good ending. It fit the story real well. I think the author wanted us to be anxious about weather monk was locked in or not so we would want there to be more about it. But I thought the ending was good

I think the janitors found Monk because he was probably pounding on the locker. Because there are usually people in school when school ends like the teachers.

The author made you think that Monk was actually in the locker, trapped. But there would definitely be some people left in the school, and the janitors who come at 5. So the ending, as we said in class, was a bit of a hyperbole.

  26. I think that a janitor found him in the locker and got him out because it only makes sense and if a janitor didnt get him out he would've died

I thought that the ending of Priscilla and the wimps was awesome. The author made you think that Monk was stuck in the locker for those couples of days. But I don't think that Mo0nk was stuck in the locker those couples of days. Probably one of his Kobras came and got him out.

  28. I think that Monk was pounding on the locker when school ended. then a janitor or a teacher used one of though locker opener things and got him out. But then the next time they went to school he wouldn't mess with anyone.

I think no one found monk because the storm was to bad so none of the janitors found him.

I think that the janitor in the school found him. I doubt that he just stayed in the locker the whole time.Or one of his kobras found him

I think hte janitor would of got him out because he was yelling for help.

  32. Joe b.

I think monk stayed there for another hour or two. Then maybe he got out because a teacher or janitor heard him. After he got out and returned to school i think he kept his gang but kind of didn't let anyone know about it.

I think Monk stayed in the locker for about an hour in the cold and finally escaped. I think Monk was embarrassed and never bullied again... at least not in front of Persilla.

I think Monk got out of the locker. Either one of his Kobras found him or a janitor did. He would have died if he stayed in there for a week.

  35. I think that Monk was let out of the locker by the cobras because they always have his back. If i were stuck in a locker for a week I would try to open it from the inside or call for someone who works at the school. I also think that Priscilla had more friends after she shoved him into the locker.

I think monk just kicked open the locker door. And if he had a cell phone then he could call his parents to pick him up from the school. And if he didn't have a cell phone he would probably use a phone in the school.

I think that monk stayed in the locker for at least 30 minutes.Plus if I would be stuck in a locker I'd tell Priscilla I'm sorry, or yell very loud "HELP ME I'M STUCK IN LOCKER #(whatever the number of locker it was, 102, 239, whatever)!" so that many students would hear. It would be impossible to stay alive in the locker for a week because you cane only stay alive without food or water for 5 days. And the cobras would have helped or the teachers, janitors, etc.

What I thougth I think monk got was still in the locker went left and I dont think that the janitors got he out or the teacher because i think he was quiet because he was so scard so no one would hear Monk.

  39. I think that monk got let out by the janitor. A teacher would of heard him if not the janitor. I would scream.

I thought that the "Pricilla and the wimps" was okay book but I wouldnt read it if I didnt have to. It wasnt a really challenging book. I did like how at the end the author made it seem like he was in the locker all week.

Well I think Monk got out from his friends and if he still was in there his parents would probably think something is wrong. I think he was definetly over exsaturating.

I agree with Margot about the janitor letting him out. That is another way of him gettingout of the locker.

i think he got out of the locker. But he wasnt mean after that.it shows that girl can be strong and not stand up for themself.

  43. dominik I liked when prissla ;liked to stuff monk in the locker . I think monk got stuk in a locker.I think that he ngot saved from his locker

  44. I think that the author wanted the reader to think that Monk was stuck in the locker for a week. But when you think about the teachers are still there and Mrs.Shaum and Ms.Koperski, and Mrs.Morris all now our combinations for our locks.

After Monk got out of the locker I think he and his gang were afraid of Priscilla and Priscilla became popular and she didn't know why.

I think that monk kinda got relived of his duties. I also think that the janitor realistically let him out but i wish he did't. cause monks a meanie!

What I think is going to happen in Pricilla and the Wimps to that guy in the locker is that he may get out but he may not because he is a bad preson. I dont want him to get out. I dont like the monks. But I think one of the teachers would hear him and let him out. But I think once one of the teachers hears him and reconizes his voice she would not let him out

I think Monk might have stayed in the locker for a couple of hours and then he was found. Because I really don't think he would be trapped in there for a week. I think that one of the janitors or maybe a teacher would get him out and then that would be the end of Klutter's Kobras.

  49. Lanie C.

In my opinion monk probably screamed his head off till the janitors came. But he probably be in there for at least an hour. But for sure his parents would notice he was gone and look for him. So my conclusion is that monk never stayed in that locker over night.

The author said the kobras cleared the hall for after school shakedowns. Therefor if he kept pounding on the locker one of the kobras probably opened it for him. Or he was stuck there for a few hours and the janitor gt him out

    ReplyDelete
  51. Amelia B.

I think Monk probably didn't stay in that locker for long. A janitor probably heard him screaming and pounding on the door, or one of the Kobras might have come back for him. If not, at least his parents would notice he was missing and come look for him.

I think monk was not stuck in the locker for the whole week. I think a janitor would let him out or a teacher that is still is in the building. I would think that his parents would come back to the school and get him out. That would be harsh if they just be harsh to leave him in there.

I don't think that monk would have stayed in the locker because his kobras could have gotten him out. If not then the janitors would have gotten him out. I liked the use of the hyberbole at the end because it lift you thinking.

I liked the ending very much, especially because of the hyperbole.
It was cool to see a hyperbole and how it makes you believe that Munk was stuck in the locker!! I liked it because Munk got what he deserved and Priscilla and Melvin lived happily ever after.
Over all i liked the story with the odd couple, the gang, the savior and everything!

  56. I don't think that Monk was trapped in the locker for a whole week. Someone like the janitor or his cobras would hear him and get him out. I liked the hyperbole because it made the story more interesting. It also made you think about what really happened.

"Pricilla and the Wimps" was alright. I thought the hyperbole used at the end was a good spot for it because it left you wondering. I think Monk would've been let out by a janitor or a teacher, finishing up work when they heard him screaming. I think Monks reputation and confidence to bully would've gone down the drain he would probally be to meek and shy to bully anymore. The point is someone would've ended up finding him after a couple of hours.
